Problem statement: Nowadays, students and teachers are faced with an overflow of unstructured data. The inevitable consequence is that we start to mix everything in our mind, we are confused, and if we are confused we do not learn. If we do not learn, we become inefficient and lose our motivation.

Proposed solution: My goal is to create a much more sensitive map of scientific knowledge that exhibits the logical relations of science within virtual reality. Virtual reality will enhance knowledge representation by expanding the possibilities of interactions and visualization, therefore increasing our emotional states which in turn, expand the neural activity.

First, let's draw a map of ETH courses, just following the existing statements of requirements of each lecture. The goal would be that a first-year student can immediately figure out two things: 1. HOW to attend a lecture, 2 WHY to attend a lecture. In addition, let's draw a concept map of all the content in the course.

Then, let's expand by harnessing virtual reality to enable a new way of navigating knowledge and add artificial intelligence in order to create a truly Personal Learning Environment. A program that knows our scientific background and is therefore able to draw a personal learning path to the learning goals we set. By adding social elements and shared databases we add yet another dimension.

This programme is called CLAIRE. I believe that this will come alive soon, with or without our participation. The required technologies are already here, our human senses and abilities are underexploited, science aims at unification and we are all looking for CLAIRE-ification.

Next steps: Additional meetings with experts, developing initial code and then user testing with ETH students. If you want have any of the capabilities listed below and want to get involved, contact me, André.
